    This constituency covers an approximate area of 1441.9 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 23°59'33.7"N 83°44'29.0"E.

    A total of three Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Garhwa constituency, which are: Bhawanathpur, Bishrampur, Daltonganj. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Balrampur-Ramanujganj district of Chhattisgarh.

    In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Mithilesh Kumar Thakur of JMM won in this constituency beating Satyendra Nath Tiwari of BJP by a margin of 23,522 votes which was 09.80% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Satyendra Nath Tiwari of BJP was the winner in this seat beating Girinath Singh of RJD by a margin of 21,755 votes which was 10.69% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Satyendra Nath Tiwari of JVM won this seat defeating Girinath Singh of RJD by a margin of 10,062 votes which was 6.71% of the total votes polled for the seat.
