This constituency covers an approximate area of 726 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Gingee is: 12°11'48.1"N 79°19'11.3"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 78.21%, while it was 79.97% in 2016, and 81.68% in 2011.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Masthan K S of DMK won in this constituency beating Rajendiran P of PMK by a margin of 35803 votes which was 17.5% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Masthan K S of DMK was the winner in this seat beating Govindasamy A of AIADMK by a margin of 22057 votes which was 10.97% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Ganesh Kumar.A of PMK won this seat defeating Sivalingam. R of DMDK by a margin of 1811 votes which was 1.04% of the total votes polled for the seat.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Masthan K S of DMK had a vote share of 53.58% in this seat. In the 2016 Assembly elections, Masthan K S of DMK got a vote share of 43.99% , In the 2011 Assembly elections, Ganesh Kumar.A of PMK got a vote share of 44.15% in Gingee.
