According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 65.15%, while it was 66.94% in 2016, and 74.41% in 2011.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, K P Shankar of DMK won in this constituency beating K Kuppan of AIADMK by a margin of 37661 votes which was 18.94% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Samy.K.P.P of DMK was the winner in this seat beating Balraj.B of AIADMK by a margin of 4863 votes which was 2.56% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Kuppan, K. of AIADMK won this seat defeating Samy, K.P.P. of DMK by a margin of 27291 votes which was 16.57% of the total votes polled for the seat.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, K P Shankar of DMK had a vote share of 44.34% in this seat. In the 2016 Assembly elections, Samy.K.P.P of DMK got a vote share of 43.25% , In the 2011 Assembly elections, Kuppan, K. of AIADMK got a vote share of 57.03% in Thiruvottiyur.
