Gharaunda shares its borders with six other Assembly constituencies. Other Haryana Assembly constituencies adjacent to Gharaunda are: Indri, Karnal, Assandh, Panipat Rural, Israna, Samalkha. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Uttar Pradesh.

In the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections, Harvinder Kalyan of BJP won in this constituency beating Anil Kumar of INC by a margin of 17,402 votes which was 12.10% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Harvinder Kalyan of BJP was the winner in this seat beating Narender Sangwan of INLD by a margin of 17,883 votes which was 11.49% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Narender Sangwan of INLD won this seat defeating Varinder Singh Rathore of INC by a margin of 1,660 votes which was 1.39% of the total votes polled for the seat.

In the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections, Harvinder Kalyan of BJP had a vote share of 46.71% in this seat. In 2014, Harvinder Kalyan of BJP secured a vote share of 35.5% in this constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Narender Sangwan of INLD got a vote share of 29.44% in Gharaunda.
