Jaganathpur comprises of the following areas of West Singhbhum district in the South Jharkhand region of Jharkhand: Naomundi and Gua police stations and Gram Panchayats Kurtabera, Urkiya, Makaramda, Thalkobad (Part I) and Chhotanagra (Part I) in Manoharpur police station in Chaibasa Sadar sub-division.

    This constituency covers an approximate area of 1569.55 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 22°15'47.9"N 85°28'01.2"E.

    A total of three Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Jaganathpur constituency, which are: Manoharpur, Chaibasa, Majhganon. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts of Odisha.

    In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Sona Ram Sinku of INC won in this constituency beating Mangal Singh Bobonga of JVM by a margin of 11,606 votes which was 10.22% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Geeta Kora of JBSP was the winner in this seat beating Mangal Singh Suren of BJP by a margin of 24,611 votes which was 21.72% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Geeta Kora of JBSP won this seat defeating Sonaram Birua of BJP by a margin of 25,740 votes which was 31.34% of the total votes polled for the seat.
