    Demographic profile

    There were a total of 2,98,259 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2024 Assembly election in Jharia Assembly constituency, of which 1,58,586 were male, 1,39,657 female and 16 of the third gender. In the 2019 Assembly elections, there were a total of 3,02,949 registered voters, of which 1,68,096 were male, 1,34,851 female and 2 from the third gender. In 2014 elections, there were a total of 2,66,487 registered voters in this constituency, of which 1,52,516 were male and 1,13,971 female. In the 2009 polls, the number of total electors was 2,76,086 which included 1,59,632 male and 1,16,454 female voters.

    This constituency covers an approximate area of 97 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 23°41'30.5"N 86°24'50.8"E.

    A total of three Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Jharia constituency, which are: Dhanbad, Sindri, Chandankyari. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Purulia district of West Bengal.

    In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Purnima Niraj Singh of INC won in this constituency beating Ragini Singh of BJP by a margin of 12,054 votes which was 07.60% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Sanjeev Singh of BJP was the winner in this seat beating Niraj Singh of INC by a margin of 33,692 votes which was 21.9% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Kunti Devi of BJP won this seat defeating Suresh Singh of INC by a margin of 3,016 votes which was 2.49% of the total votes polled for the seat.
