    A total of three Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Nirsa constituency, which are: Jamtara, Tundi, Sindri. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Paschim Bardhman and Purulia districts of West Bengal.

    In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Aparna Sengupta of BJP won in this constituency beating Arup Chatterjee of MCO by a margin of 25,458 votes which was 12.06% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Arup Chatterjee of MCO was the winner in this seat beating Ganesh Mishra of BJP by a margin of 1,035 votes which was 0.51% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Arup Chatterjee of MCO won this seat defeating Ashok Kumar Mandal of BJP by a margin of 35,577 votes which was 22.59% of the total votes polled for the seat.
