This constituency covers an approximate area of 743 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Mailam is: 12°14'10.3"N 79°32'25.4"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 79.5%, while it was 81.12% in 2016, and 82.48% in 2011.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Sivakumar C of PMK won in this constituency beating Dr Masilamani R of DMK by a margin of 2230 votes which was 1.27% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Masilamani R of DMK was the winner in this seat beating Annadurai K of AIADMK by a margin of 12306 votes which was 7.19% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Nagarajan.P of AIADMK won this seat defeating Prakash.R of PMK by a margin of 20081 votes which was 13.26% of the total votes polled for the seat.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Sivakumar C of PMK had a vote share of 46.02% in this seat. In the 2016 Assembly elections, Masilamani R of DMK got a vote share of 41.4% , In the 2011 Assembly elections, Nagarajan.P of AIADMK got a vote share of 53.92% in Mailam.
