In 2014, R P Marutharajaa of AIADMK emerged victorious in this seat beating Seemanur Prabu, S of DMK by a margin of 2,13,048 votes which was 20.67% of the total votes polled in the constituency. AIADMK secured a vote share of 44.89% in the seat.

In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Napoleon,D of DMK won this seat beating Balasubramanian,KK of ADMK by a margin of 77,604 votes which was 9.32% of the total votes polled in the constituency. DMK had a vote share of 47.9% in the seat.
